The BIEA International STEM Youth Innovation Competition is an annual, multi-phase innovation and entrepreneurship competition that encourages young people to create a future they want to live in.
For the 2026 edition, inspire your students to tackle one of today’s most pressing global challenges: reducing food waste for a sustainable future.
Young people are invited to investigate food systems and design innovative solutions—such as reducing waste in farming, improving food storage, or supporting local redistribution. The experience links directly to science, maths and design & technology, helping students apply classroom learning to real-world issues.
To be eligible for the competition final, after completing their project on reducing food waste, students must complete a different BIEA STEM Star project in Spring 2026. UK students are exempt from the £25 STEM Star certification fee.
The competition offers rich career inspiration, connecting students with experts in sustainability, agriculture, food innovation, engineering and data science.
Finalists from the UK and many countries showcase their solutions to professional panels, building confidence and teamwork.
Timeline:
30 Dec 2025 - Deadline for 1st Round Report Submission & BIEA STEM Star Certificate Registration.
30 Jan 2026 - Finalist teams announced.
30 May 2025 - All finalists must have received a BIEA STEM Star Certificate.
June 2025 - Online Finalists Panel Sessions.
7 July 2025 - UK Final and Showcase (in-person event, London).
8 July 2025 - Youth Voice Forum 2026, Westminster City Hall, London.
